On May 8th, OpenHub had the honor of participating in an iconic evening: the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Louvain Foundation, a key player in the influence of UCLouvain for a quarter of a century. For this exceptional event themed around space, our team envisioned an immersive and technological scenography, in line with the ambition of this visionary foundation.
In the auditorium, guests were transported to a fictional space station, thanks to a 3D environment designed using Unreal Engine 5. Broadcast simultaneously on six screens, this galactic scene offered complementary viewpoints from different virtual windows. The effect: a total immersion in a moving universe, where each image contributed to a smooth and captivating visual narrative.
Planets and moons in 3D lithophane
To extend the sensory experience, we designed a series of 3D lithophane lamps, each representing a planet or moon of the solar system. These unique pieces, 3D printed from space images, rested on custom-made mechanical bases: integration of LEDs, personalized engravings with names and logos... Each element was conceived to combine aesthetics, technology, and storytelling.
A holographic co-presenter
Highlight of the evening: the appearance of Holo, our holographic co-host developed specifically for the event. Designed to interact naturally and energize exchanges on stage, Holo delivered an astonishing performance, blending artificial intelligence and augmented scenography. Floating in space thanks to a discreet holographic support, he perfectly embodied the spirit of OpenHub: making innovation tangible and human.
Through this staging, OpenHub aimed to translate into images and emotions the diversity and richness of the projects supported by the Louvain Foundation. A way to remind us that behind every technology, there is an intention, a vision, and, above all, a community ready to innovate for tomorrow.
